1. The area around WTC 7 where I work has one of the densest concentrations of Toyota Priuses in New York: a lot of them were purchased by the governmental agencies. Whole blocks near Centre street are filled in the followng manner: Prius, Prius, Prius, rusty Dodge Ram, Crown Vic, Prius, Prius, Prius. Yesterday I was almost run over by a Prius double parked near an intersection: it started moving, but it did not register with me because it made no sound at all. Modern cars are very quet, but they all vrooom when starting up, and you kind of epect that from a parked car. This made me remember a scene in The Weeds, where gang leader U-Turn buys himself a Prius because it’s a great car for drive-by shooting: very quiet in electric mode, great for sneaking up on people.

Как очевидно из моего ника, у меня два тотемных животных — свинья и мышь. Поэтому я конечно сразу загорелся, увидев это! Потом увидел ценник ($4,680) и почувствовал себя грёбаным нищебродом. Update: i_cherski разумно заметил, что такую фиговину можно сделать самостоятельно.

Но вещь прекрасная абсолютно. Обжедар.

But what I found the most enjoyable was not that, but a little episode about Ilya Miloslavskiy, the book author’s illustrious ancestor. Boyar Miloslavskiy was sort of an olde tyme oligarch. In 1600s he headed all of Russia’s most important (and profitable) ministries, Military, Medical, Treasury, etc. He was a man of limitless appetites, and stole amazing amount of money. Miloslavsky’s boss, tzar Alexei was not bothered as much by stealing, as he was by amoral behavior.

Tolstoy quotes Dr. Collins, a royal physician and apparently Miloslavsky’s employee:

Третья на моей памяти инкарнация флэш-моба про ЖЖ-интересы. Решил поучаствовать и получил от Тыреха следующее:

1. занудство как способ эпатажа: позаимствовано у Вити Левина. Как мне кажется, отражает мои особенности поведения в определённых жизненных ситуациях.
2. хтонические болезни: ничего не означающее, но прикольно звучащее словосочетание, придуманное, кажется, в общении с Пчелом.
3. идиотская самодовольная музыка: Позаимствовано у Магера. Ну, понятно в общем — символ всемирного братства людей, слушающих всякую хуйню.
