[livejournal.com profile] edbook, a nature photographer. Found among [livejournal.com profile] 109's friends. Incredible!

I'm almost completely ignorant in the subjects of photography, digital imaging etc. From what I know, I presume that such and such pictures, that really astonish me with their beauty, must be a result of some software-aided post-processing. How long does it take to be able to even remotely imitate such mastership?

Howdy Dmitry, I saw that you added my journal to your friends list so came by to have a look at yours and add you back. Thank you for the kind compliment you gave me in your journal.

You mentioned my software aided post processing... I use film cameras and borrow my wife, [livejournal.com profile] ilenebook's digital camera too. Most of the images that I post in my journal have been scanned with a film scanner and then I make some adjustments just as I would in a wet film conventional darkroom when making prints. I use Adobe Photoshop for those adjustments. The images you noted were also manipulated with Photoshop tools beyond normal color balance and saturation adjustments. I use many levels and use different effects with each and then use various blending methods and masks to get the results that I do. Sometimes they are successful and other times not. I have studied Photoshop and digital imaging on my own for a few years and have studied these subjects in classroom to learn the tools... I've found that the classroom work teaches how to use the various tools but like any other art, doesn't teach the art itself. I took those tools and through much experimentation found ways I like to use to get the results that I do. The more I learn about Photoshop, the more I see that I don't know. I'm by no means an expert but I feel that I am doing something that no one else is that I have seen.

I wonder what the comment that [livejournal.com profile] 109 made was.

Peace and Warmth
Ed

Thanks for your answer, Ed.

[livejournal.com profile] 109's comment (almost) literally means: "he heavily processes his photos in Photoshop on Mac".
