From CMU/SEI-2003-TN-2003, "Documenting Software Architectures in an Agile World" by Paul Clements et al (PDF):

Martin Fowler once asked if you would buy a Mazda Miata for its cargo carrying capability, implying that you would not use agile methods for large projects.

From "A Rationale for XP Plus" by Jim Tomayko (PDF):

We agree with Martin Fowler, who said at XP Universe 2001, "no one would complain about the cargo-carrying capacity of a Mazda Miata," in other words, if you want to achieve these other characteristics of projects, like size, choose another method.

Is anybody else aware of this episode (Google is not)?
